Genesis 27:1-5,15-29, Matthew 9:14-17

THEME: OUR UNIQUE WALK WITH GOD

Genuine peace emanates from the joy derived from knowing Jesus, even when we acknowledge the potential sorrow that may accompany it. Life is both pain and gain. To be sound in health we must not be too elated with gain and must not be downcast by the bites of our low moments.

Jesus’ response to John’s disciples in today’s gospel says it all. To the question, “Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?’ Jesus replied, ‘Surely the bridegroom’s attendants would never think of mourning as long as the bridegroom is still with them? But the time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

Each has his or her measure of joy and pain. John’s disciples had theirs while their master was in the prison, and they had every course to fast. Jesus’s disciples would surely have theirs when their master is arrested. There is time for everything. It is not within our capacity to compel others to align with our spiritual journey since their life experiences are distinct and personal to them.

Let’s pray that we understand the pace of our walk with God. Amen.
