HOMILY OF TUESDAY OF THE 12TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Genesis 13:2,5-18, Matthew 7:6,12-14

THEME: PEACE WITH GOD AND MAN

QUOTE: While the surrounding grass may appear greener, one must tread cautiously, for there is the possibility of green serpents lurking around. Things are not always the way they seem. When we are greedy or selfish, we might end up making deadly choices capable of suffocating our enterprise.

Conversely, when we practice thoughtfulness and seek harmonious coexistence, we willingly grant others the opportunity to have their way at times, fostering an environment of peace. This is not a sign of weakness rather it is a demonstration of faith in the God of providence, whose storehouse of blessings can never run dry.

We read in today’s first reading, how Abram, wealthy with livestock, silver, and gold, journeyed alongside Lot, who possessed flocks, cattle, and tents. As the land couldn’t accommodate them both, disputes arose, Abram proposed separating, but allowed Lot to choose which portion of the land he preferred.

Driven by greed, Lot, looking round, saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere, and chose it. He went to dwell in a land where sin was commonplace, and he would later experience the sting of iniquities. But Abram settled in the land of Canaan, where God blessed him.

Scammers always come with sugar coated words to deceive people into shady investments. In any case, our mind can equally scam us, if we do not tailor our desires rightly.

Above all, when Godly values inform our decisions in life, we will gain the prize of peace.

May We never swerve from God’s pattern in our daily choices. Amen.
