HOMILY OF MONDAY OF THE 12TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Genesis 12:1-9, Matthew 7:1-5
THEME: THE LAW IN OUR HANDS
No one is capable of giving an absolute unbiased judgement, in that our judgement cannot go beyond our preconceived idea about a case at hand or it is mere the product of our mind construct. That is why the Lord said, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged; because the judgements you give are the judgements you will get, and the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given.”
Everybody is struggling with one issue or the other. Until we are done with our own faults, we have no ground to condemn others on account of their own. We can always suspend our judgement and give God the room to judge, because, to him belongs perfect vision.
Moreover, where there is law or clear constitution, what we call judgement is simply an announcement of the agreed implications of our action. It is a written agreement, meant to preserve sanity in the society. Truncating it may amount to breaking law and order.
While, as individuals, we do not take the laws into our own hands, we must not obstruct the process of the communal proceeding in the administration of justice. Above all, judgement belongs to God.
May our assessments of others be adorned with a compassionate touch. Amen
