THE POWER OF EXPOSURE, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

111

HOMILY OF SATURDAY OF THE SIXTH WEEK OF EASTER

Acts 18:23-28, John 16:23-28

THEME: THE POWER OF EXPOSURE

It is not good to be a man or woman of one book, that is, sticking to a particular thing or idea without wanting to try others.  Beyond our space, there are more or better opportunities to grow. If we are satisfied with our now and settle just only to be king of the jungle, we may be missing a lot of chances for growth.

An Alexandrian Jew named Apollos now arrived in Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, with a sound knowledge of the scriptures, and yet, though he had been given instruction in the Way of the Lord and preached with great spiritual earnestness and was accurate in all the details he taught about Jesus, he had only experienced the baptism of John. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him speak boldly in the synagogue, they took an interest in him and gave him further instruction about the Way.

Oftentimes, we may be full of ourselves, not knowing that we still have many rivers to cross. Apollos was lucky, he met people who sharpened his knowledge of the word of God.

Likewise, when we encounter the Holy Spirit, he takes us beyond what the eye can see, or hand can touch. He sharpens our knowledge of God and assuage our hunger for holiness. He exposes us to mysteries beyond human comprehension.

O Lord, you said, “Ask and you will receive, and so your joy will be complete.” Increase our passion for you, fill our pot of knowledge with your divine wisdom that we may have a fuller knowledge of you. Amen.
