HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY OF THE HOLY WEEK

Isaiah 50:4-9, Matthew 26:14-25

THEME: THE DELICATE SIDE OF INTIMACY: THE JUDAS SYNDROME

People may not know our real identity until they move closer to us. At first, they may see us as the exact figure which they initially fell in love with. But as times goes on, they may begin to become dissatisfied with our nature when they realized that we no longer fit into the perfect picture of the person they saw in the beginning. When such happens, pretense may be the only way to keep the pace of their relationship with us.

Possibly, judas would have left the company of the disciples, if not for his office. He kept managing his misgivings, because his greed couldn’t afford him to leave and look for his kind of messiah. No one knows how many times Jesus had disappointed him by his own mode of evangelization. His cup of anger was filled to the brim, when in Bethany Jesus told him to leave Mary alone as she anoints his feet with costly ointment.

There is no point pretending that all is well when we are truly dying in silence. It is good to make our disappointments known so as to iron out our differences, because when an issue is not well addressed, overtime it grows into a monster.

Many of us are into toxic relationships today and are dying in silence. Oftentimes, we feel we have reached the end of the road, but we keep pushing. It is better we speak up, lest we become suicidal or become murderous. While we keep acting the perfect guy when deep down we are poisonous, we may  not know when we give Satan the centre space in our heart. Jesus said, “but alas for that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! Better for that man if he had never been born.”

Let’s pray that nothing in us will make us ungrateful or dangerous to those who  love us.
