HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE THIRTY SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C.
14TH NOVEMBER 2025.
BY REV FR. ADOLE ACHILLEUS ILE LAMPEZ CSSp.
1st reading : Wisdom 13:1-9
Psalm 18:2-5
Gospel : Luke 17:26-37
In the gospel reading of today, Jesus spoke about life after this life one earth, and the necessity to be ready at all times as we await the end of our existence on earth.
This is one topic that we don not want to hear about. This is because we have embraced the things and beauties we find on earth and would not want to leave them behind.
Some of us have been blinded by the things of the world that it becomes very difficult to recognise the author of these things, rather, we hold on to the things of the world as if there are gods. To this, the book of wisdom as we see in the first reading says, “…naturally stupid are all men who have not known God and who, from the good things that are seen, have not been able to discover Him who is….” Therefore, the beauties of the world should not take the place of God in our lives. We must guard against that at all cost.
We must remeber the words of Jesus in the gospel today as he spoke to his disciples, so he speaks to us today that, “…As it was in Noah’s day, so will it also be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating and drinking, marrying wives and husbands, right up to the day Noah went into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all….”
We can decide to ignore the message of the need to focus on God. We can decide not to listen to his prophets and his priests, and continue to search for the things that gives us pleasure and momentary joy. But, we must know that his time will come when he will make a perfect selection of those who listened to him and leaving out those who did not listen to him to face their fate. This is not a threat to us, but a call for us to be better children of God, living our lives in the way that pleases him and with our focus on the life after this world.
May God give us the graces we need to be better children who would seek for the things of heaven rather than the things of the world.
Peace be with you
