Homily of Tuesday, 4th November 2025
31st Week in Ordinary Time, Year C
Memorial of St. Charles Borromeo. Fr Emmanuel Aghidi CSSp.
Texts: Romans 12:5–16b; Luke 14:15–24
Friends, The Gospel presents us with the image of a great banquet, a powerful allegory of the Kingdom of God. This banquet is eternal, and the host is Christ Himself, who invites each of us to share in His divine joy. His servants, sent to deliver the invitation, represent today’s preachers of the Word, missionaries, and all who bear witness to the Gospel.
What an honour it is to be invited to this heavenly feast! Yet many turn away, distracted by worldly concerns or self-interest. Let us not refuse such a gracious call. Instead, let our hearts respond with gratitude and readiness, living in obedience to God’s will and faithfully participating in the Holy Eucharist, the foretaste and prefiguration of that eternal banquet.
With joyful hearts and humble disposition, let us go daily, if possible to the altar of Christ, to partake in His Body and Blood, and to renew our communion with Him who calls us to everlasting life.
St Charles Borromeo whom we celebrate today responded to this invitation from the master with his whole life. Today he shares in His eternal presence. We too can.
May the Lord bless His words in our hearts. Amen.
