HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE TWENTHY FOURT WEEK IN
ORDINARY TIME YEAR C. 19TH SEPTEMBER 2025.
BY REV FR. ADOLE ACHILLEUS ILE LAMPEZ CSSp.

1st reading : 1 Timothy 6:2-12
Psalm 48:6-10,17-20
Gospel : Luke 8:1-3

As each day breaks, the number of churches continues to increase as the numbers of pastors, priests and other ministers of the word, and the number of those who want to hear the word of God also increases. As a result of this, there is a need to talk about the doctrines and teachings of the faith and what it implies in order to forestall falsehood and enhance a more mature knowledge of God.

St. Paul saw this need in his era and wrote to his son in faith as we see in the first reading of today, that, “…anyone who teaches anything different, and does not keep to the sound teaching which is that of our Lord Jesus Christ, the doctrine which is in accordance with true religion, is simply ignorant and must be full of self-conceit…”

More so, just like in the first reading, many in our era have been deceived or had been formed in the way of falsehood and had erroneous information about faith and religion, thinking that it is all about making profits. Therefore, they jump into it, forming their own churches and prayer groups and teaching wrong doctrines. And as St. Paul says, all that can come out of this kind of orientation, “… is jealousy, contention, abuse, and wicked mistrust of one another; and unending disputes (because) people who long to be rich are a prey to temptation; they get trapped into all sorts of foolish and dangerous ambitions, which eventually plunge them into ruin and destruction….”

Consequently, we must take note of what is right not to be deceived by others who are in the field with an ulterior motive of making personal profits and not to help genuinely in spreading the word of God.

Finally, every Christian like St. Paul wrote to Timothy, is called to “fight the good fight of the faith and win for yourself the eternal life to which you were called when you made your profession and spoke up for the truth in front of many witnesses.”

The ultimate question is: Am i on the right track of my faith? Let us reflect on our lives as Christians, evaluate oneself, and let the result of this evaluation help to motivate you to grow into maturity in faith.

Peace be with you.
