Homily of Tuesday in the 22nd week of Ordinary Time Year C. 2 September, 2025.
Fr Emmanuel Aghidi CSSp.
Texts : 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6.9-11, Luke 4:31-37.
Friends, everything about Jesus is full of amazement. He continues to show the world what true light is. Today, He entered the synagogue and found a man with an unclean spirit and ordered the spirit to get out of him. He brought freedom and liberation to the man. The man could enjoy peace and comfort again. Not only him, but everyone around him who must have been terrorized and misled by this spirit will begin to know better. This is the mission of Jesus.
Beloved, in a world where people with authority enslave those whom they were supposed to serve and liberate, Jesus remains true and becomes a shining example for through authority. We can learn from Jesus. Authority is not for enslavement. Authority is not to make people fan us and sing our praises like mosey politicians in Africa do. If the authority we possess cannot bring peace and comfort to people, then we do not possess the authority of God.
Many of us are people of authority in various spheres of life and in our little ways. We can continue to encourage one another as St advised in the first reading. We can help ourselves relearn the values of Christ again. We can help ourselves to truly be the light.
May the Lord bless his words in our hearts. Amen.
