The details of the journey of the Isrealites from the land of Egypt down to the trail and the hope of the promised land is all but encompassing. There were agreement and disagreement, change of reverence from God to gods. Doubts and faith, anger and joy, and other things.
As the book of Deuteronomy enters the scene, it seems to be a cordial and understanding relationship between the Isrealites and God. God has proven, and they have believed that they are God’s people and God has chosen them as his people.
Moses, in the first reading is tries to teach the people of Isrealites what God demands from them. To love him, respect him, serve him, and obey his laws and commandments.
As people of God in a journey, let us be assured that what is promised is already promised by God. What we ought to do is our own part. As the Isrealites were being instructed today, we too are. Let us try our duty towards God in order to achieve what is promised to us already.
Jesus in the Gospel of today shows the importance of civic duties no matter your level or position in life. Though divine, he still did pay his tax, teaching his disciples and, by extension, us that it is our duty to support the government no matter their performance. What we ought to do is our own part.
Saint Claire, in her virginity, offered all to God. Influenced by St Francis Assisi, she dedicated all her life to God and service to humanity. She even reached to the extent of not allowing the members of her congregation to own anything personal so as not to be distracted by worldly things and to focus on their service to God and humanity.
We, too, should and can emulate the Saint of the Day. We may not be extreme as she was, but we should know that the sacrifices that we do today in our lives here on earth will be the results we will receive here after. Make it a positive one.
PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL
