In the first reading of today, Paul was telling the Corinthians that Timothy, Silvanus and himself had always remained firm, one minded and consistent in what they did in the Lord. He described it as Always Yes and not no. However, he concluded it by saying “But it is God who establishes Us with you in Christ and has commissioned us and has put his spirit in us.”
Dear friends, we can boast in the Lord without being proud. As a matter of fact, Jesus continues to remind us of our identity especially as we see in the gospel reading as salt of the earth and light of the world. We are a very special people who should give taste to and light to the world. We are not just ordinary people. St Paul understood this. Him, Timothy and Silvanus have given taste and light to the world of the Corinthians. It was appropriate to exult in this reality. Nevertheless, they were not proud. They boasted in the Lord but were not proud. How do we know this? Paul’s later submission that it is God who establishes them in Christ speaks of this reality. They never stole God’s glory.
Dear friends, we are the salt of the earth, we are the light of the world. Nothing must stop us from making impacts. We have been established in Christ. The impact we make is for the glory of God. We were created for this impact. We were created for this glory. We were created for wonders.
The Lord be with you.
