Today, in the gospel text, Jesus calls Simon Peter three times, and at each call and response, Jesus asks Peter an inevitable question every Christian should answer namely; “Do you love me more than these others do?” In other words, ‘do you love God more than others’?
In his answer, Peter accepts that he loved Jesus more than others. As a result, Peter is given a special task of feeding and tending to the flock of Jesus as his proof of love for Him.
In the same vein, Jesus is calling on every Christian to make that bold step of demonstrating our love for Him through our show of love to our neighbours and those in need that we may find around us.
Consequently, it is not enough to proclaim your love for Jesus on pulpits, or on the streets and anywhere else you may find yourself. The question is, how have you shown that you really love Jesus. Have you fed and tended His flock?
We must note that the idea of feeding here does not suggest physical hunger only but includes spiritual hunger as well.
In our society right now, you don’t need to go too far before you can find someone who is in need of either spiritual or physical care. These are the people we must draw close to ourselves and show them the love that Jesus us demand of us. In doing this, we are proving our sincere love for Jesus.
Peace be with you 🙏🏾
