Homily of Monday of the 1st week of Advent
Isaiah 2:1-5, Matthew 8:5-11

God’s mountain explains an open region, open to all who diligently seek him. It is a place where anyone can approach and experience his truth, which is made manifest in Christ. In that region, His truth is unveiled to whoever approaches Him with faith. It is not the prerogative of a selected church member or a sect, nor is it a denominational thing.

“When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, ‘I tell you solemnly, nowhere in Israel have I found faith like this. And I tell you that many will come from east and west to take their places with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob at the feast in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 8:5-11

The above passage explained Jesus’ reaction, when he was approached by the centurion who came pleading for the healing of his servant. His faith demonstration and belief in Jesus was second to none. Though a non-Jew, his faith broke the barrier which separated the Jews and the Gentiles. This shows that God in Christ has come into the world, not for a selected few, but for those who truly approached him with the right disposition and faith.

Let us approach Jesus with free mind. No one has sole access to him. It is not a game of status nor a function of special choice. Though he may relate with us at different level based on our assignment in his kingdom, his door is always open to all who approach him for their concerns.

May our faith be strong enough to move the hands Christ. Amen.
