HOMILY OF THE FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR B

2 Samuel 7:1-5.8b-12.14a16, Rom 16:25-27, Luke 1:26-38

It is a reality that when God wants to bless someone, he incites him or her to perform a good action. Whenever he remembers his covenant with us, he inspires us to do something worthy of his call. He will always establish lasting covenant with whoever will sincerely put him in the first place.

King David, after the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies and while he was dwelling in his house, he spoke to him through prophet Nathan. He said,

” See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.”

Seeing his heart, and his quest to build a house for God, the Lord spoke to him, promising that he will build a house for him instead.

“….I will raise up offspring after you, who shall come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure for ever before me; your throne shall be established for ever.”

His promise was fulfilled through Mary, the singular vessel of honour.

However, though the fulfilment of the Lord may seem to tarry, it will come to pass when the necessary conditions are present. He is ever ready to bless us and the flow of his blessings can never ceased. He simply needs us to open up to him, by saying yes to all that he asks of us and subsequently strive to live out the dictates of his commandments.

Moreover, the angel Gabriel visited Mary to announce to her God’s plan for the line of David. She consented to the angel’s message and became a channel of God’s salvation.

When we walk worthy of the Lord and make ourselves ready for his works, he will achieve some of his plans through us.

May the good Lord make us worthy of his calling. May nothing of us block the flow of his favour in our lives, thorough Christ our Lord. Amen.
