Today we celebrate the solemnity of the Christ, the king of the universe.

Kings live in the palace. We are celebrating a king who prefers to live in human hearts. Through him all things are made.

Though, ceremonially, we are expected to process into the streets with him his reign is beyond ceremony. He rather wants to reign in our lives. He wants to establish his kingdom through us. His kingdom is a kingdom of love and service.

By the virtue of our baptism, through the chrism anointing, we share in his kingship. The test of the exercise of our own kingship comes from the way we lead our lives. Our christian dignity is judged by the beauty of our character. With Jesus, we reign in light. We loose our kingship when we pay allegiance to any kingdom of darkness.

Our King is a shepherd king, who takes the safety of his subjects seriously. He will keep all who remains in his kingdom. He has the power to protect all who belong to him.

The Lord reigns in the hungry, the sick, the thirsty, the strangers, in the naked, and in the prisoners. The kindness we show these ones are shown to him. Matthew 25:31-46.

May our lives show forth the reign of Christ in the world. Amen.
